We shared and learned much from one another throughout these many centuries. Each of our languages borrowed words from many others. Our music, with its songs and refrains, and our folk dances, too, grew richer thanks to what we saw and heard from each other. We created a unique cuisine, which experts consider to be among the finest in the world. Most of the time, we were respectful to one another’s faith. Even the way in which we experienced our religion was influenced by other religions and other faiths. When viewed superficially from a distance, as one looks upon a piece of earth from the skies, we may seem poor, but in reality, with our culture fed by so many streams, and our plethora of differences, we are indeed very rich.
